A Closer Look | Vintage Shirt

A true An Irrational Element staple; the Vintage Shirt. The pull-over type shirt was first introduced in Collection 008 in a baby corduroy fabric. The Vintage Shirt is primarily based on old US Navy denim pull over shirts. Per usual these US Navy shirts featured a boxy fit, wide sleeves, half button closure & big chest pockets with openings on both inner sides.

An Irrational Element’s iteration of this classic US Navy shirt has focused on creating a pull-over shirt with a direct and obvious reference to this vintage style while proposing a modernized fit and details. In contrary to the US Navy shirts the Vintage Shirt features a longer silhouette with a highly curved hem, narrower sleeves with cuff button closure, a button-down like collar & ball-chain half-zip.

The outcome of these features create a pull-over shirt that is more versatile in comparison to the pure vintage versions and adaptations. Another aspect to the An Irrational Element’s Vintage Shirt is the use of a variety of fabrics that range from; very familiar to more unusual. Fabrics such as: recycled teddy wool, cotton twill, loose linen jacquard, ramie, corduroy, cotton + silk denim & tropical wool. The diversity of fabrics increases the versatility of the garment and can give the style multiple characters. Where the tropical wool version is lightweight and clean, the cotton + silk denim is a nod to the common denim material used for the US Navy pull overs whilst still having a sense of luxury.

In the future it’s expected to continue working with a wide variety of fabrics for the Vintage Shirt, new custom materials are currently being made alongside with interesting fabrics from An Irrational Elements long term partner mills.

Concludingly; I hope that the wearers of the Vintage Shirt are able to enjoy both the functionality of the garment through it’s big chest pockets, half-zip & curved hem (for easy trouser pocket access) while also enjoying the designated material of their specific Vintage Shirt.
