Household Materials | Recyled Cotton & Polyester mix

In Household Materials An Irrational Element features materials that are inextricably connected to the An Irrational Element story. Ranging from fabrics to utilities that are used during the process of creation. This second installment focusses on a fabric that is composed of 70% recycled cotton, 27% recycled polyester and 3% polyamide and will be introduced in Collection 009 for the autumn / winter collection of 2021.

You will find this thick Italian double woven yarn dyed fabric throughout An Irrational Element’s Collection 009. The 540 grams per square meter on this fabric makes it ideal to use for our outerwear and due its warmhearted feel we decided to experiment in other categories as well. Subsequently we used the fabric for multiple tops, trousers and jackets, resulting in bulkier variations of new and existing styles.

Above you see Yoshi in a suit made from the recycled cotton mix, noticeable is the thickness and textured waves, revealed by winter sunbeams, throughout the suit. While this thickness makes our styles bulkier, the composition and weave of the fabric enrich each fit with a particular soft skin feel and a slight stretch for comfort. In one word, although slightly overused when describing A/W fabrics, ‘snug’ embodies this fabric in spirit and physicality.

One of the main principles when sourcing materials is studying its viable quality and obtaining as much information into the overall quality and durability. Finding a, mostly, recycled fabric that wears well and is durable in terms of quality is quite tricky. All the more reason why An Irrational Element is excited to introduce this fabric as we consider it true to the An Irrational Element style and vision. To introduce this fabric there were discussions with the mill in Italy about its specifications and we made multiple wear samples to test how it would respond to everyday use. In conclusion the items made from this fabric are a perfect fit for the ones looking for a thick, warm and supple fitting addition to their winter wardrobe.
