An ode to Louis

The past few months the An Irrational Element home and studio have been illuminated by the warm presence of Louis. Only 2 months old when he first entered the studio, Louis brought with him unrestrained happiness and innocent (yet sometimes wild) enthusiasm. Intelligent by nature and benevolent by heart, he is paving his way through Antwerp with ‘bravoure’ and curiosity. The speed, sounds, buildings, people and dynamics of the city are shaping him into an even more spirited creature that seizes happiness from the city its subtleties. Trotting proudly into the hearts of others and myself.

In December I took Louis on a train and car ride to Lexmond, my old hometown, to visit my mother and take him to the outdoors for the very first time. Lexmond is surrounded by a wide variety of nature that were all new to Louis. Taking him out into the serenity of the town, watching geese fly in formation while the sun rises from up on the dike. From the dike we took Louis to floodplains where he could roam freely and carelessly. Bringing along my Nikon F5 and a Film Washi monochrome 35mm film I captured Louis taking his first steps into these floodplains, the sand and the river.
